July 4th 2013

Today (4th of July) is Independence Day in the USA. This is the official commemoration of he day when the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 – declaring independence from Great Britain.

John Adams wrote this to his wife Abigail concerning July 4th:

The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.

Adams was speaking of July 2nd – the day that Congress approved the resolution of independence.

I am a relatively new citizen of this nation. I am praying for the USA tonight:

• That every section of the Church would see revival
• That young people would come running into the Kingdom of God
• That our leaders would turn to the Lord and rule this nation with wisdom and righteousness – that God’s kingdom would arise in towns and cities all over the nation.
• That a hunger for God would arise in hearts everywhere
• That God’s presence would become the priority of every worship team and every church – that His glory would flood and wash the earth like waters cover the sea

Habakkuk 2:14
For the earth will be filled
With the knowledge of the glory of the Lord,
As the waters cover the sea.
