Agreement

Agree

There is a little word that is so interesting in the New Testament. It is only used 7 times in six verses, but it is very powerful in its meaning. The first time this word is used is in Matthew 18:19

Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.

I am talking about the little word “agree” in this verse. Jesus is calling us to agree on earth for the things we are asking for in prayer.

The word for “agree” comes from the Greek word symphoneo (Strongs number 4856). We see here the concept of “symphony” or sounding together in a chord – to become one in prayer, or to have the same mind.

So, when we pray in one accord, we are making a “symphony” of prayer – an agreement that comes before God’s throne as a harmonious sound. We talk about “coming into agreement” in prayer. In other words, each one who is praying is coming into tune with the chord or sound of the request we are making before God’s throne.

Jesus asked us to pray: “Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” When we pray this, we are coming into harmony, or the same chord as in heaven. The sound of our prayer is like a symphony before the throne of God.

I am also excited about the last time this word is used in the New Testament:

Acts 15:15-17
And with this the words of the prophets agree,
just as it is written: “After this I will return
And will rebuild the tabernacle of David,
which has fallen down;
I will rebuild its ruins,
And I will set it up;
So that the rest of mankind may seek the LORD,
Even all the Gentiles who are called by My name,
Says the LORD who does all these things.’

James is telling us that there is a “symphony of agreement” throughout the prophets that David’s tabernacle should be rebuilt. David established his tabernacle of 24/7 prayer and worship when He became King. Mount Zion, or Jerusalem became the international worship center of the day, where all nations and peoples were invited to come and be joined to God as unified worshipers. It is this prophetic worship established by David that is being restored even today. When we worship, there is a spiritual “chord” that comes into alignment – even beyond the musical chords that we play on our instruments. Just as musical notes are really vibrations of sound, so too, there are vibrations of sound that emanate from the “agreement” of worshipers as they stand before the Lord and adore Him.

Just think – when our prayer and worship are in “agreement” with the will of heaven, there is a mighty symphonic roar that rises over the earth, and is able to shake the captives lose from their chains. God’s will is vibrated into being – our hearts and minds join the chord of heaven as we pray and sing the will of God into the earth!

We also see this word in Luke 5:36 Then He spoke a parable to them: "No one puts a piece from a new garment on an old one; otherwise the new makes a tear, and also the piece that was taken out of the new does not match the old.

We see here that the 2 fabrics have to be compatible – the same – the same strength in order to hold a garment together. You cannot cover up the old worn out things with the new otherwise the seam will not hold together. There has to be a match between the two for there to be strength.

So…this kind of agreement:

• releases a symphony of prayer

• releases the will of God

• releases heaven on earth

• releases the prophetic plan of God for the ages

• releases prophetic worship

• releases the roar of God

• releases a strength
