This
psalm is a love song to the King – it was probably written on the occasion of
the coronation of Solomon…but is also an allegorical description of our King of
kings.
Verses
3-4 give a magnificent description of the glories of His majesty – 7 layers of
beauty:
- He is full of might
- He is full of glory
- He is full of majesty
- He is full of prosperity
- He is full of truth
- He is full of humility
- He is full of righteousness
V6-7 Not
only that, but He is seated on an everlasting throne, and He rules with a
scepter of righteousness. Scepters are emblems of royal authority, and the
foundation of all authority in this Kingdom is holiness and joy!
Verses 6-7
Your throne, O God, is
forever and ever;
A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom.
You love righteousness and hate wickedness;
Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You
With the oil of gladness more than Your companions.
V8 Take
time today to smell the fragrance of His garments:
- Myrrh – the smell of death when self
has died and Christ lives
- Aloes – the smell of extravagant,
passionate worship
- Cassia – the smell of the overcomer who
strips off the old and sinful self, and lives in Christ
