Psalm 34 uses the little word, “all” 7 times – it is a psalm that speaks to everything within us, and calls us to engage in all of God!! Here are the 7 things that the psalmist is calling us to consider:
V1 I will bless the Lord at all times –
praise is appropriate in our lives at any time in any day
V4 (He) delivered me from all my fears
– not one fear of any sort is able to stand in the presence of God – He has
exercised His power over every fear throughout all time
V6 (The Lord) has saved us out of all
our troubles – every trouble of every sort is subject to the resurrection power
of Jesus. He can save you from every degree of difficulty
V7 The angel of the Lord surrounds all
those who fear Him…and delivers them – What an amazing promise! – this is a
guarantee for all who fear (know, worship and obey) the Lord – He has sent
angels to surround us at all times. Ask the Lord to make you aware of these
heavenly beings. These angels are there to deliver us from harm. Just think of
angels setting up tents all around your life and home!!
V17 The Lord delivers us out of all our
troubles – in verse 6 we see Him saving us from our troubles – now he is
delivering us from them – removing every trace of them from our lives
V19 The Lord delivers us out of all our
afflictions – In this psalm, the Hebrew word for “trouble(s)” is tsarah, which means “distress” or
anything that vexes. The Hebrew word for “afflictions” is a much stronger word:
ra’ which means “evil, malignant,
giving pain, unhappiness, misery, worse than, hurtful, unkind, wicked in
thought, deed or actions, distress, injury, adversity, calamity, sad, ethically
evil.” In short…pretty bad circumstances that include every sort of problem!
There is absolutely no difficulty or situation – no matter how serious or dark
that the Lord is not able to lift from our lives. Nothing can stand against the
total victory Christ won for us on Calvary. That includes every shame, pain,
trouble, affliction, sickness, evil, horror, sorrow, sadness, disaster, tragedy
or suffering that is known on this earth. He delivers us from them all. Notice
in this verse that it is the righteous who are suffer these afflictions…but the
Lord delivers us from them all!
V20 The Lord guards all our bones – in
other words, He has delivered us from spiritual woes and the troubles of
life…now He is guarding our physical bodies from all harm. He covers every area
of our life and keeps us from all harm!!
