Wisdom and Counsel

Proverbs 4:7-8
Wisdom is the principal thing;
Therefore get wisdom.
And in all your getting, get understanding.
Exalt her, and she will promote you;
She will bring you honor, when you embrace her.

Wisdom

- The first ones to walk in wisdom (in the Bible) were the artisans who were filled with God’s Spirit of wisdom: Ex. 28:3; 31:3, 6 These wise artists used their knowledge to build and beautify the Tabernacle where God met with His people.

- Walk with wise people and grow wise: Proverbs 13:20 He who walks with wise men will be wise,
But the companion of fools will be destroyed.

- Walk in wisdom and build your home: Proverbs 24:3-4 Through skillful and godly Wisdom is a house (a life, a home, a family) built, and by understanding it is established [on a sound and good foundation], (Amp)
And by knowledge shall its chambers [of every area] be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

How To Recognize Bad Counsel

-Bad counsel contradicts the Word of God
-Bad counsel often comes from someone who has had a bad experience
-Bad counsel comes from seeking advice from someone who will give you confirmation of what you already want to do
-Bad counsel comes from someone who has an agenda

Wise Counsel
Prov. 12:14 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, But he who heeds counsel is wise.

- Wise counsel comes from someone who has already travelled the road and come through: Prov 1:8 My child, listen when your father corrects you. Don’t neglect your mother’s instruction. (NLT)
- Wise counsel is a choice - Solomon's son Rehaboham did not choose wisdom (2 Chron 10:4-11) he failed as a king because he listened to his peers over the wisdom of his elders
- Wise counsel comes from the Word. Confirm all counsel by the Word
- Wise counsel comes from second opinions - Prov 11:14 Where there is no counsel, the people fall;
But in the multitude of counselors there is safety.
- Wise counsel comes from walking with The Counselor (the Holy Spirit) Jn. 16:7 (Amp) He is the Spirit of Truth - He leads us into truth - He lives on the inside - we have access to the truth at all times
- Wise counsel comes from asking for it - If we ask for wisdom He will give it. the path of the righteous is clear - it is a light. James 15 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
- Wise counsel comes from walking in the fear of the Lord: Prov. 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction. (Also: Prov. 9:10)

Wisdom is knowing the right path to take;
Integrity is taking it
