The Holy Spirit works on our behalf -
At Salvation:
• He regenerates. Through the ministry of the Holy
Spirit a person is born again (John 3:3:3–8), He gives life (John 6:63).
• He indwells.
Jesus said that, “You will know Him because He abides with you, and will be in
you” (John 14:17). If we do not have Him dwelling in us we do not belong to
Christ (Rom. 8:9). See also 1 Cor. 3:16.)
• He baptizes.
We are baptized into the Body of Christ, “For by one Spirit we are all baptized
into one body…” 1 Cor. 12:13. This takes place at the moment of salvation, then
water baptism symbolizes spirit baptism.
• He seals.
When we are born again, we receive the Holy Spirit as the seal of our union
with Christ (2 Cor. 1:22). This seal represents His ownership and guarantee of
our lives.
The Continuing Work of the Holy Spirit (9 things He does now):
• He fills.
Paul commands us to be “filled with the Spirit” (Eph. 5:18). At conversion, we
are indwelt with the Holy Spirit, but the believer needs the indwelling Holy
Spirit to control every area of their lives and bring them to maturity. We need
to continually be filled with the Holy Spirit—it is not a one-time event. The
Holy Spirit also fills the believer with the love of Christ—Rom. 5:5
• He empowers.
The Holy Spirit is our strength in the battle against the world, the flesh and
the devil (Rom. 8:13; Gal. 5:17). He is our inner strength—Eph. 3:16. The Holy
Spirit is our key to victory (Zech. 4:6)
• He gives gifts. (1 Cor. 12:4, 7–11; Rom. 12:6–8; Eph. 4:11)
• He prays.
The Holy Spirit prays for, and through, the believer—Rom. 8:26; Jude 20; Eph.
2:18; Eph. 6:18. When we don’t know how to pray, the Holy Spirit helps us.
• He guides.
The Holy Spirit guides the believer as we walk in Him—Jn. 16:13; Rom. 8:14;
Gal. 5:16, 25
• He teaches.
The Holy Spirit teaches the believer—John 14:26; 16:13; 1 Jn. 2:27
• He helps us to witness—Acts 1:18
• He reveals.
The Holy Spirit reveals biblical truth to the believer—1 Cor. 2:10. He is
brining us into the likeness of His glory—2 Cor. 3:18
• He comforts.
The Holy Spirit is our Comforter—Acts 9:31; 2 Cor. 1:3-4
