The Anointing 2

The Hebrew word "Messiah" and the Greek word "Christ" both mean "the Anointed."

The word "Christ" is not just another name for Jesus, but a reference to the Anointed and the Anointing that was on Him and in Him. In the same way, the word "Christians" means more than just followers of Jesus. It means "the ones who are anointed." That yoke-destroying Anointing that was on Jesus is available to you.

1John 2:27 talks about the anointing that abides in us. John instructs us to abide in Him – or the anointing. We need to realize that we can actually abide in the anointing as we live in Christ the Anointed One. If we are in the Anointed One we are in the anointing. The anointing, then, is the person of the Holy Spirit working in us and through us as we dwell in Him. The anointing doesn’t come on you – rather, it flows through you as you yield to the work and will of The Anointed One who dwells in you. The anointing is not a “thing’ it is the work of the Spirit in all Believers.

The anointing is God’s touch on humanity doing those things that flesh cannot do. It is God doing things only He can do - through a human vessel:

2 Cor. 4:7 however, we possess this precious treasure [the divine Light of the Gospel] in [frail, human] vessels of earth, that the grandeur and exceeding greatness of the power may be shown to be from God and not from ourselves.

Here are the six layers of anointing that were seen on Christ – we also have the privilege of being ministers in these areas of ministry:

Luke 4:18-19 NKJV The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.

1. The anointing is given to preach the gospel to the poor - We who are redeemed must bring God’s love to all who are thirsty and seeking Him

2. The anointing is given to heal and restore people
- We who are restored must bring God’s love to all who are broken and stand in need of Him

3. The anointing is given to proclaim freedom to the captives – We who are released from bondage must bring God’s love to all who are bound and are desperate for Him

4. The anointing is given to open blind eyes – We who are able to see and live in the truth must bring God’s love to all who are in the dark and who long for Him

5. The anointing is given to set people free
- We who are free must bring God’s love to all who are imprisoned and are searching for Him

6. The anointing flows in God's timing and proclaims God's timing – We who are in the hand of the Lord must bring God’s love to all those who have given up hope and are desperate for Himis p

Hebrews 1:9 You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of gladness more than Your companions."
