So many people seem to think that we are anointed by God
only when some “holy” person lays hands on us and “gives” us God’s anointing.
Over the past few days I have been studying the three anointings God has for
His priests. I am interested in God’s plan for us as we find his anointing on
every area of our lives. Each
anointing comes as we surrender to the will and Word of the Lord. I am convinced that the anointing doesn't so much come on us - it flows in and through us as we walk as overcomes in our lives. The anointing is not a "thing" it is the presence of the Lord - our Champion as He is the ultimate expression of every victory.
We have
looked at the first two anointings – water and oil. This is the third
anointing:
The anointing of
blood—Ex. 29:20; Lev. 8:23–24
The hands of the one consecrated were laid on a ram that was
sacrificed – the blood was then applied to the tip of the right ear of Aaron
and his sons, their thumbs and the large toe of their right foot.
God was calling for their ears to be set apart for Him to
speak to them; their hands to be consecrated for holy work; and their feet to
walk with integrity and authority. So, too, we must have ears that are tuned to
the voice of the Lord, hands that serve Him with holy deeds and feet that walk
in holiness.
The blood has particular meaning for us as New Testament
priests. Jesus is our perfect sacrifice. His blood is still at work today, to
bring us into His anointing. We cannot earn this anointing. We must walk in
what many saints called the cross life.
This really means that we learn to die to self. Through this process, we gain
the anointing of blood for our lives.
Our cry must become: More of Him – less
of me!
Paul said it this way:
Gal. 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ;
it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now
live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave
Himself for me.
It is this anointing of blood
that finally makes us ready to enter into the presence and glory of the Lord.
Eph. 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus you who
once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
Heb. 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the
eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience
from dead works to serve the living God?
Consecration lasted several days (Ex. 29:35; Lev. 8:33) the
sacrifice was repeated every day and the ones being consecrated could not leave
the sanctuary. Likewise with us, consecration is not a process that can be
hurried.
Holiness is inward glory;
glory is holiness shining forth outwardly.
Holiness is inwrought by the Holy
Spirit,
not because we have suffered,
but because we have surrendered.
