The Anointing 10

It is important to know that the Lord desires to anoint all of His servants. As we have learned, the anointing is Christ Himself – it is all of Him covering all of us as we yield all of ourselves to all of His grace. The greatest way to obtain this anointing is to abide in Him, walk alongside Him, overcome through Him, change to be like Him, surrender to Him, and live for Him. Our everyday choices to walk in holiness and victory produces a nation-changing anointing on our lives.

The 3 anointings that we must apply to our lives are:

The anointing of water, which is His Word living in us
The anointing of oil, which is His character smeared on us
The anointing of blood, which is His death and life abiding in us

John uses the word “anointing’ 3 times in 1John 2:20, 27 as he admonishes us to abide in Him as He teaches us all things.

Here are the things we need to do in order to live in the anointing. This is an anointing that no one can give you – we walk in this anointing as a result of:

• Consecration – each of us as believers are set apart to minister as consecrated, passionate God-lovers. It is out of relationship and imitation of His character that we have layers of anointing in our lives. Set your life apart from all other things and run after God with all your heart.

• Word – You cannot have an anointing outside of your relationship with the Lord in His Word. The Word washes and instructs, it brings you face to face with the Lord and provides you with a powerful anointing.

• Receive – the anointing has been freely offered – we need to receive what He has made available to us. Put off all your old ways of thinking and acting – put on Christ and His nature. “Wear” His anointing as a beautiful cloak.

Psalm 133 (Message)
1 How wonderful, how beautiful, when brothers and sisters get along!
2 It's like costly anointing oil flowing down the head and beard, flowing down Aaron's beard, flowing down the collar of his priestly robes.
3. It;s like the dew on Mount Hermon flowing down the slopes of Zion. Yes. that's where God commands the blessing, ordains eternal life.

The Anointing 8

The final ingredient in the holy anointing oil is Olive oil

• A hin (6 pints) of olive oil—the word, here, is charisma, or smearing on. We get the understanding of the anointing from this word. Olive oil also signifies peace, prosperity and wealth. Much is said of its beauty, fruitfulness and usefulness to mankind.

The olive oil was one of the main tree crops of ancient Israel. It was during the month of November that the olives were picked and pressed for oil.

Olive trees can stand for long periods of drought. Olives take two years to mature, and then the fruits ripen slowly. The olives are placed on a grooved stone wheel and another heavier stone is turned over them which is worked by a beam. The pulp is then pressed under weight. The oil runs into stone vats where it is then left for sometime to settle and clear.

This heavy pressing of the olive is a picture of the anointing that comes from our lives when we grow in grace in the midst of difficulties. Even in times of spiritual drought, we can still find the maturity of God's fruit in our lives as we abide in Him. Sometimes our trials may seem like the heavy press that the olive goes through. When we walk through trials correctly and embrace the Lord, an anointing will surely flow.

Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights...
Matthew 4:1-2

The oil from the olives speaks of probation by trial. After Jesus had His time of probation by trial in the wilderness, He came out victorious and started His miraculous ministry. There is a price to pay to carry a high level of anointing. You may lose your reputation by those you consider as friends, and you may even be abandoned by everyone around you. It will seem as if you are living in the wilderness, but you will be able (by God's grace) to stand long periods of drought.

Look at the list of meanings of olive oil in Jesus' life...and now in our lives:

Smearing on; Holy Spirit; Joy; Healing; Favor; Peace; Prosperity; Wealth

Heb. 1:9; Jas 5:14

Jesus was full of the Holy Spirit His whole life Lu. 2:40; 3:22-23; 4:1

How do we find oil in our lives?
Eph. 5:18—Be filled with the Holy Spirit
Matt. 7:7-11—Ask, seek, knock. He gives excellent gifts
Matt. 21:22—Receive (Mk. 11:24)
Jn. 7:37-38—Thirst, come, drink, believe, flow

Now let us get ready for the Holy Spirit to pour out His anointing on us in 2013 - just like the priests of old, He wants His priests today (all Believers are priests - 1Peter 2:5, 9) to  be anointed by the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Ask the Lord for a fresh Charisma or pouring/smearing of the Holy Spirit on your life today!

The Anointing 4

The anointing of oil—Ex. 30:23–30; Lev. 14:17
Moreover the Lord spoke to Moses saying, Also take for yourself quality spices - five hundred shekels of liquid myrrh, half as much sweet smelling cinnamon (two hundred and fifty shekels), two hundred and fifty of sweet smelling cane. Five hundred shekels of cassia, according to the shekel of sanctuary and a him of olive oil. And you shall make from these a holy anointing oil, an ointment compounded according to the art of the perfumer. It shall be a holy anointing oil. Exodus 30:22-25

The 2nd anointing to be placed on the right ear, thumb and toe, is the anointing of oil. As you can see in the verse above, there are 5 ingredients that had to be blended together.

The holy anointing oil was used to anoint the priests as well as all furniture in the Tabernacle of the Congregation. Again, this anointing is an expression of the person of the Spirit of God – it is a picture of the presence of the Holy Spirit in every area of our lives.

There was a strict recipe for the anointing oil. Each of these ingredients has meaning for our lives:

5 ingredients indicate God’s GRACE – FAVOR

It is as if the first four ingredients are “baptized” in the water of the Holy Spirit

• 500 shekels (1 shekel=10 penny weights) of liquid myrrh
500 Israeli shekels = approx. $130 U.S. dollars
Myrrh has a bad taste, but a sweet smell. It represents the suffering and sacrificial death of Christ. Myrrh was offered to Jesus 3 times during His life—at His birth; when He was dying (to dull the pain of the cross); He was embalmed in myrrh. Each of these point to the importance of Christ’s suffering and death on our behalf. We can also see the 3 uses for myrrh in Biblical times:

            —As a cleansing agent
—As an ingredient in the anointing oil
            —As a perfume

When we learn the secrets of dying to self and walking through suffering with grace; then we will come into a great place of cleansing in our lives, a new anointing will rest upon us and our lives will have the fragrance of Christ.
Phil. 3:10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death).

1Cor. 15:31 I die daily
Gal. 2:20 It is not I that lives, but Christ that lives in me
Phil 1:21 For me to live is Christ and to die is gain

Bitterness; suffering; sacrificial death to self; purity
1Cor. 15:21; Gal. 2:20;

Jesus was given myrrh as a baby – Matt. 2:11
He is the “Man of Sorrows” Is. 53:3
He had anointing and favor through suffering

How Do We Find Myrrh In Our Lives?
Phil. 3:10—seek the fellowship of His suffering
1Cor. 15:31—Die daily
Lu. 9:23-24—Take up the cross and follow Christ
Gal. 2:20—Allow Christ to live in/through you
