Update on Pastor Saeed Abedini

Here is an update on Pastor Saeed Abedini who is currently being held in an Iranian prison for his faith. From FOX NEWS:

An Iranian court rejected an appeal from Saeed Abedini, the American Christian pastor held in Iran for his Christian faith, and refused to reduce the eight-year prison term his supporters believe is tantamount to a death sentence, according to his family and lawyers.

Abedini, 33, an American citizen who lives in Boise, Idaho, with his wife and two children, has been held in Iran’s Evin Prison since September, following his arrest on a bus. His supporters say he has been beaten and tortured in the prison, and that he was only in Iran to try to start a secular orphanage.

“While we remained hopeful that Iran would use its own appeal process to finally show respect for Pastor Saeed's basic human rights, again Iran has demonstrated an utter disregard for the fundamentals of human rights,” said Jordan Sekulow, executive director of the American Center for Law and Justice, which represents Abedini’s wife and their two children.

“We are exploring all options with Pastor Saeed’s family, including options in this country and abroad to bring more pressure on Iran from the U.S. and other countries around the world. The decision is deeply troubling and underscores Iran’s continued violation of principles of freedom of religion, association, peaceful assembly and expression.”

Abedini’s attorneys were hopeful that new Iranian President Hasan Rowhani, who took office this month, would show more clemency in religious persecution cases. Instead, Abedini's legal team is now more fearful that the latest legal setback could mean he'll face additional beatings and abuse inside the notoriously brutal prison.

The decision to reject Abedini's appeal came yesterday from the Tehran Court of Appeals and was handed down by a two-judge panel that refused to provide Abedini's Iranian attorney with a written copy of the decision, according to his attorneys.

One of the judges issuing the decision, Judge Ahmad Zargar, was previously sanctioned by the European Union for issuing long-term sentences and death sentences for peaceful protesters.

Abedini, who was first arrested for evangelizing in his homeland more than a decade ago, claims he was freed and told by authorities he could return to visit family as long as he refrained from spreading his faith. But when he went back to Iran last year to help build a secular orphanage, he was arrested.

“The news out of Iran is devastating to our family,” said Naghmeh Abedini, who believes her husband's only hope for freedom lies with Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.

Naghmeh Abedini also expressed disappointment in the U.S. government.
“My husband is serving eight years in the notorious Evin prison and facing daily threats and abuse by radicals because he refuses to deny his Christian faith," she said. "I am extremely disappointed that President Obama has chosen to remain silent on this critical human and religious rights case of an American imprisoned in Iran.”

Although President Obama has not spoken out on Abedini's plight, the State Department, which has no diplomatic relations with Iran, has condemned his continued imprisonment.

The decision rejecting the appeal comes just one month before the first anniversary of his imprisonment. Prayer vigils are planned in the U.S. and around the world for Sept. 26 and a website,www.savesaeed.org has been made to help spread the word.

Pastor Saeed Abedini

I am asking for us all to pray for Pastor Saeed Abedini. He is an American pastor (born in Iran) who converted from Islam. He returned to Iran to participate in aid work and was arrested and jailed because of his Christian faith.

Here is the article from ACLJ - read the full article Here: Pastor Saeed

It began last week. American Pastor Saeed Abedini, who is serving an eight-year prison term in Iran because of his Christian faith, has been suffering from internal bleeding for months - injuries received from the beatings in prison. In what could only be viewed as a cruel act of psychological abuse, prison officials took Pastor Saeed to a hospital last week - only to be turned away - and brought back to Evin prison without receiving medical treatment for his internal bleeding.
Now, comes word out of Iran, that the beatings and physical abuse are intensifying. Pastor Saeed reported today that last week he was severely beaten the same day the prison officials took him to the hospital. During the weekly prison visit today, Pastor Saeed's family reported that his physical condition is worsening - seeing first-hand the marks and symptoms left by the recent beating. These beatings and the internal injuries are causing Pastor Saeed frequent fainting spells.  Iranian officials are telling Pastor Saeed it could be an additional two months before he will receive medical treatment. Such a delay is inhumane and a gross violation of Iran’s international obligations.
In addition to refusing to give Pastor Saeed the medical care he needs, it now appears authorities are stepping up their physical abuse and psychological torture. Pastor Saeed reported that cellmates, who appear to have connections to the Iranian intelligence police, recently threatened they would suffocate Pastor Saeed in his sleep, making his death look like an accident.  The daily threat that his life could be taken by his internal injuries or by the hands of cellmates, weighs heavily on Pastor Saeed.
These troubling developments are of grave concern to Pastor Saeed's wife, Naghmeh, who lives with their two children in the U.S.
"I can not express in words how concerned I am about Saeed's physical and mental health," Naghmeh said. "He is now continually attacked and threatened. The Iranian government should know that we are watching and aware of what they are doing to Saeed inside Evin prison. We need to speak louder until Saeed is home safely on US soil."

Pastor Saeed Abedini

I want to remind everyone to keep praying for Pastor Saeed Abedini. Pastor Abedini (32) is an American citizen (born in Iran) who has been arrested in Iran on charges of evangelizing and sentenced to eight years in one of Iran’s most brutal prisons – Evin Prison.

Abedini claims that he returned to Iran to help establish an orphanage. Police pulled him off a bus last September and placed him in Jail. He has also been charged with “endangering national security” by helping to establish home churches.

Saeed’s converted to Christianity in 2000. His family live in Boise Idaho. He has a wife (Naghneh) and two young children (4 and 6 years old).

The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) have started a petition to save Pastor Saeed and have him released. Please take some time out of your day to pray for him and sign the petition:

Update on Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani

Yay! Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani (32) has been acquitted of apostasy in Iran.

Pastor Youcef was arrected on Oct. 13, 2009, after protesting the government's decision to force all children (including his own Christian children) to read the Qu'ran. He was initially charged for protesting, but the charges were later changed to apostasy and evangelizing Muslims. He was sentenced to death in 2010.

The charges of apostasy were dropped in his trial this week, and Pastor Youcef was convicted on the lesser charge and sentenced to three years imprisonment. He has already served this time and was able to be released today.

In 2011, the Iranian Supreme Court offered to release Pastor Youcef if he converted to Islam, but he refused and remained in prison.

Praise God for this wonderful news!!

Matthew 5:10-12
You're blessed when your commitment to God provokes persecution.
The persecution drives you even deeper into God's kingdom.
Not only that - count yourselves blessed every time people put you down
or throw you out or speak lies about you to discredit me.
What it means is that the truth is too close for comfort and they are uncomfortable.
You can be glad when that happens - give a cheer, even!
- for through they don't like it, I do! And all heaven applauds.
And know that you are in good company.
My prophets and witnesses have always gotten into this kind of trouble.

Keep praying - there are hundreds of others who are still being harassed or falsely detained in Iran for their faith.

God and the Olympics - 7 Things

How does God compare to the Olympic athletes? Here are examples of seven of the strongest, fastest, bravest and most skilled of our time - with a final slam dunk of excellence:

Usain Bolt can run 100 meters in 9.63 seconds - he runs at about 38.48 mph
My God has lightening coming out of His hands that travels at 186,000 miles per second! (Job 36:32)
...and Michael Phelps swims at about 4.7 mph
My God rides on a swift cloud at about 170 mph - depending on the wind (Isaiah 19:1)

Female Olympic shot putters can hurl an 8 pound 13 oz metal ball just over 68 feet. Men throw a 16 pound shot put approximately
71.5 feet
My God threw the massive R136a1 star (with a mass 300 times our Sun) 22,000 light years from earth - in miles, that is 1.29326996x10 to the power of 17!
There are about 100 thousand million stars in the Milky Way Galaxy alone - there are millions upon millions of galaxies apart from that! Each star has come from His hands. (Psalm 8:3-4)

Olympic high jumpers leapt over the bar at 7 feet 9.7 inches!
My God leaps on mountains and skips over hills!! (Song of Solomon 2:8)

Olympic weight lifters can lift totals over 720 pounds
My God holds oceans in His hands!! (Isaiah 40:12)

Olympic archers do well to score in the mid-1300s as they shoot at a target 229 feet 8 inches away
My God sends out arrows at the speed of lightening - 186,000 miles per second (670 million mph), and He always hits His target (Zechariah 9:13-14)

Olympic equestrian riders compete in a grueling three day event testing the skill and endurance of both horse and rider
My God will endure to the end at the head of the victorious heavenly army. He will be seated on a glorious white horse as He makes war against all evil. (Revelation 19:11-21)

Olympic fencing athletes compete in the disciplines of epee, foil and sabre. They have to have great balance, speed, co-ordination, timing, endurance and footwork.
My God has given me a sword that is sharper and quicker than any known Olympian's sword (Hebrews 4:12)

Here is Kobe Bryant doing a spectacular slam dunk in a game against Nigeria
My God has completed the greatest slam dunk of the entire universe when He raised Jesus from the dead - to conquer sin and death for all mankind - for all time! (1 Corinthians 15:26; Hebrews 2:14-15)

I could go on, and on, and on!! Think about the applause and honor that these athletes receive for these feats. Let us give the Lord the honor that is due to Him - we should shout and dance with joy at the wondrous things He has done:

Psalm 96 (Message)
1Sing God a brand-new song! Earth and everyone in it, sing!2Sing to God - worship God! Shout the news of his victory from sea to sea,3Take the news of his glory to the lost, News of his wonders to one and all!4For God is great, and worth a thousand Hallelujahs. His terrible beauty makes the gods look cheap;5Pagan gods are mere tatters and rags. God made the heavens -6Royal splendor radiates from him, A powerful beauty sets him apart.7Bravo, God, Bravo! Everyone join in the great shout: Encore! In awe before the beauty, in awe before the might.8Bring gifts and celebrate,9Bow before the beauty of God, Then to your knees - everyone worship!10Get out the message - God Rules! He put the world on a firm foundation; He treats everyone fair and square.11Let's hear it from Sky, With Earth joining in, And a huge round of applause from Sea.12Let Wilderness turn cartwheels, Animals, come dance, Put every tree of the forest in the choir -13An extravaganza before God as he comes, As he comes to set everything right on earth, Set everything right, treat everyone fair.
And I just need to show you some of the bravest of all the athletes:

I salute all the women from Islamic countries who represented their countries.
Sarah Attar from Saudi Arabia

South Sadanese Marathoner Guor Marial had to run under the Olympic flag as he
has no passport and no citizenship.
He fled his native country because of civil war 11 years ago
and has not seen his parents for nearly 20 years

Defending champion Matthias Steiner of Germany survived 432 pounds falling on his neck

Isaiah 40:29-31

He gives power to the weak
and strength to the powerless.
Even youths will become weak and tired,
and young men will fall in exhaustion.
But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary
