Karitos Worship Arts Conference

Blogging tonight from the Karitos Worship Arts conference in Chicago IL. I just love to see artists using their gifts in worship - tonight a calligraphy artist did a beautiful piece on the subject of....wait for it...GRACE! (See my blog from yesterday HERE - God is talking to His people about grace right now!)

This was all while dancers danced and artists painted - singers sang and musicians played - I love it!

Right now, Matt Tommey (Matt's Website) is speaking about the Creator who's has put all creativity inside of us - so that His Kingdom could continually be released with His creative nature flowing through us. God gives us His creativity on purpose so that we would love His things inside our lives. God doesn't want us to be creative for Him - He wants us to be creative with Him. It is tied to intimacy and relationship.

There is a way to live creatively in Him that will take us beyond the natural world. God has called us to thrive.

Some great thoughts from Matt:

- God's Word is the lens through which we look at the world and how we fit in it

- Nothing in the kingdom is birthed outside of intimacy

- Nothing happens in the kingdom without faith - faith is the currency of the kingdom

- Only sons and daughters can escape the curse and access the kingdom 2 Pet. 1:3-4
...as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. (II Peter 1:3, 4 NKJV)

- To access the kingdom you have to actively search - God directs our steps not just our waiting. Seek Him with all your being. Co-labor with Him

- When the kingdom comes expect abundance, joy, transformation - your provision is tied to your assignment. We harvest on assignment by revelation.

- Put the kingdom over your creativity and submit your talents to The Lord. Mix your skill with the revelation of God - that is when the incarnation happens - God comes - then transformation happens. We need artistic vehicles that bring transformation in this world.

Thank you Matt - thank you Jesus!

Worship Arts Conservatory

On July 9th we will be starting a new class at our online school:

Worship Arts Conservatory

Worship In Our Current Culture

In this class we look at the various styles of worship music since the 1970's until this present decade. We look at how our congregations are impacted by the rapid changes in music and worship styles, and how we can help them appreciate music that might not be their personal "cup of tea."

At our school, there are three lessons each month (one per week for three weeks). You can sign up for class each month - or you can take time out if you are busy and jump right back in when you want.

After you have taken 18 classes, you earn an Associates of Worship Arts degree from the State of Washington. Many Christian colleges will accept this as half way towards a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Come and check us out - we have a fabulous group of online students.

Oh...did I mention that you do all your work from your own computer - you don't have to leave home, family, work...you do the work in your own time.

Our sister school in Norway...

Prophetic Art

Last night at the Worship Symposium, The Lord was moving on hearts to be healed and changed. Disappointments were left at the altar and hope was restored. AS this was going on, I looked over at the paintings that two artists were completing on the corner of the stage - the first one was this beautiful heart that showed us what was happening in our broken and contrite hearts:

Then the Lord challenged us to lift our voices with the shout and roar that comes from Zion:

Joel 3:6 The LORD also will roar from Zion, And utter His voice from Jerusalem;
The heavens and earth will shake;
But the LORD will be a shelter for His people,
And the strength of the children of Israel.

Again, I looked over at the second artist, and saw this glorious "Lion of Judah."

This painting had started off as a mass of color - I thought it was going to be an abstract painting...but this roaring lion emerged. Wow! Bondages were broken as we all roared and saw the Lord arising in His strength and power over our lives.

That is what "prophetic art" is all about. It is songs, music, dance, painting mime, etc. that takes us to the Lord. It helps us to see His face and hear His voice. Prophetic art takes us through the art and on to the Lord - we don't stop and put our full focus on the art - the art is a catalyst for seeing something of the Lord's character and person. Prophetic art makes art part of a journey and not the destination in itself.

A song, dance or painting will not change us, but when these arts lead us to the sight and sound of God's voice, then they are prophetic. The goal in worship is to see the face of God and to hear His voice so that we can minister to Him and honor Him. When this happens, we will be changed. Staying the same is not an option at that point.

You can tell if you have worshiped or simply sung songs, etc. Transformation is the outcome of all worship that is in spirit and truth.
