God sits in seven
places - each of these is an expression of Christ's victory on Calvary:
• The Lord sits on the
mercy seat – Ex. 25:22 And there I will meet
with you, and I will speak with you from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim
which are on the ark of the
Testimony, about everything which I will give you in commandment to the
children of Israel.
The Lord’s presence was seated above the mercy seat in Moses’
Tabernacle. It is important to note that the Lord rules in mercy – His mercy
triumphs over judgment (Jas. 2:13). Because of what Jesus accomplished on
Calvary, He is able to sit down in His finished work – He sits in mercy!
• The Lord sits on His
throne - Ps. 47:8 God reigns over the nations; God sits on His holy throne.
Rev. 7:10, 15 and
crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God
who sits on the throne, and to
the Lamb!”
Dan. 7:9 … And the Ancient of Days was seated…
He
calls us to come boldly to His throne (Heb. 4:16) – we are invited into His
presence – in full view of the King on the throne. This is a throne of grace –
not judgment. Jesus has made it possible for us to come face to face with the
King of the universe. He sits in grace!
• The Lord sits above the circle of
the earth – Is. 40:22
It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants are
like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the
heavens like a curtain, And spreads them
out like a tent to dwell in.
All
the earth is the Lord’s. He is the Creator of heaven and earth. How great and
awesome He is! He sits as King!
• The Lord sits (enthroned) in the
middle of His praising people – Ps. 22:3 But You are holy, Enthroned in the praises of Israel.
This
is one of the great truths about praise and worship – when we lift our hearts
to Him and praise, He moves in on us and is seated in the praise – enthroned
there in the hearts of His worshipers. He is not far away listening…He is right
there receiving the perfume of our devotion and pouring His love right back
into us. He sits in the midst of His
people!
• The Lord sits (enthroned) over the
floodwaters – Ps. 29:10 The Lord sat enthroned at the Flood, And the Lord
sits as King forever.
The
Lord was King and in full control when the earth was flooded in Noah’s time. He
is King and in full control today and the earth is about to be flooded again –
not with water, but with His glory. The earth will be filled with the knowledge
of the glory of the Lord just as the waters cover the sea. AS deep, and
expansive as a great ocean – that is how fully the coming glory will cover us
and all nations! He sits in glory!
• The Lord sits on the seat of
judgment - Rom. 14:10 …For we shall all stand before the
judgment seat of Christ. (2Cor. 5:9; 5:10)
Everyone
will stand before Him and face His judgment, but for those who believe this
will be a day of coronation and glory. He
sits in judgment!
• The Lord sits at the right hand of
the Father – Heb. 8:1 Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such
a High Priest, who is seated at
the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens (10:11-12; Eph. 1:20)
This
is the final triumph of the cross – Jesus has won a complete victory and now
sits at the right hand of the Father – this is the place of honor. He is our
High Priest. The Levitical high priests stood when they entered the
Holiest Place once a year. They were only able to stand there for a brief
moment. Jesus has finished His work and sits forever on the throne of Majesty. He sits in Majesty!
