Like A Tree Part 3

During the past 2 days I have been looking at the 3 trees that are found in the Book of Psalms. Psalm 1:3 says

He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.

The Lord calls us to be like these three trees:

1. The Olive Tree: Ps. 52:8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever. HERE

2. The Palm Tree: Ps. 92:12 The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. HERE

3. The cedar of Lebanon: Ps. 92:12 The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

- The Cedar of Lebanon, (Cedrus Libani), is also an evergreen from the family: Pinaceae (pine, spruce and fir trees)
- The Cedar of Lebanon is a very tall straight tree
- A Stately tree – the most massive tree known to the Hebrews – up to 120 feet. the “King" of all Biblical trees—It is beautifully majestic and red toned with deep green leaves
- The very broad branches of cedars represent the vast wealth of truth that gives aid and comfort to the weak and the young in Christ.
- The Cedar of Lebanon exudes a very fragrant gum of balsam (Song 4:11). In many ancient cultures the wealthy people scented their garments—anointed them with cedar oil to protect from humidity.
- The Cedar of Lebanon is extremely decay resistant and durable – it is never eaten by insect larvae, and acts as a repellant to all insects
- The Cedar of Lebanon is known as a stately, majestic tree. It was used to build Solomon’s palace (2 Sam. 7:2; 1Ki. 6:9-10; 7:12); masts for ships (Ez. 27:5); chariots (Song 3:9); wardrobes (Ez. 27:24) and it may be the wood referred to in 2Sam. 6:5 that was used to make musical instruments
- The Cedar is a picture of strength, beauty, endurance, grandeur, majesty, dignity, excellence when rooted in Christ
- The Cedar is planted by God to bring Him glory (Ps. 104:16; 148:9)

…likewise the Christian…

- All three of these trees are evergreen – just as the Believer lives before the Lord in unshakable faith
- The Believer needs to stand tall and straight in righteousness
- The Believer is a holy royal priest and the royal Bride of the King of Kings
- The Believer is pictured in the broad branches – these represent the balanced doctrine of the Church
- The Believer is the fragrance of Christ in the earth (2Cor. 2:15)
- The Believer who stands in the righteousness of Christ has great powers of resistance against the enemy. The fragrance of Christ on us dispels the devil
- The Believer is known as living stone and part of the “spiritual house” that the Lord is building (1Pet. 2:5)
- The Believer is a picture of strength, beauty, endurance, grandeur, majesty, dignity, excellence
- The Believer is a tree of righteousness - planted by God to bring Him glory: …That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified. (Is. 61:3) ...for the display of His splendor (NIV)
