Why do we get so distracted when we worship? Here is my take on the old nursery rhyme:
Pussy Cat, Pussy Cat
Where have you been?
"I've been to London to see the Queen."
Pussy Cat, Pussy Cat
What did you there?
""I spied a little mouse under the chair."
What a shame - the cat went all the way to London to see the Queen, and he ended up in the throne room...but...he didn't look at the Queen sitting on the throne ("chair") - he only had eyes for a mouse. After the journey and the entrance to the throne room, it appears that the cat wasted his time and was foolishly distracted by a mouse!!
So many Christians do the same thing - they come to Church to see the King of Kings. But...they seem to get distracted by all kinds of things. The Bible says that we "come into His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise." We are invited to Heaven's throne room but we forget to look at the glorious King. We pay attention to how loud the instruments are, what people are wearing, how hot or cold the building is and whois/is not there etc. We could say it like this:
Christian, Christian
Where have you been?
"I've been to church to see the King."
Christian, Christian,
What did you there?
"I saw the Pastor's wife with funny hair!"
Come on Believers! Come and gaze on the beauty and glory of the Lord.
Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace...
Psalm 100:4 Enter into HIs gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise...
Ps. 27:4
Ps. 27:4
One thing I have desired of the Lord,
That will I seek:
That I may dwell in the house of the Lord,
All the days of my life,
All the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the Lord,
And inquire in His temple.
