Meditating on Trees

The Lord often refers to us as trees. These magnificent works of creation can inspire great things in us - they are a silent, yet powerful testimony of God's work in, and through us. I am offering these meditations on trees:

Gen. 2:9 And out of the ground the Lord God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Father - help me to make good choices today. Thank you for all Your provision. Whatever I need in body, soul or spirit - You have provided. I don't need to go outside Your boundaries.

Job 14:7-9 For there is hope for a tree, If it is cut down, that it will sprout again, And that its tender shoots will not cease.
Though its root may grow old in the earth, And its stump may die in the ground,
Yet at the scent of water it will bud And bring forth branches like a plant.
Father - if there is hope for a tree, then there is hope for me - I reach for the scent of water today. May life spring up inside, even in places where it seems hopeless.

Ps. 1:3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.
Father - I want to be planted by You - beside You - in You.

Ps. 52:8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever.
Father - may I be like the olive tree today - evergreen and a source of nourishment, light, anointing and healing to all I come in contact with. Like the olive tree, may I flourish wherever I am planted and be steadfast in Your Kingdom.

Ps. 92:12 The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
Father - just as the palm tree is a symbol of life, joy and happiness may I live before You as a rejoicing priest.

Ps. 96:12 Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it. Then all the trees of the woods will rejoice before the Lord.
Father - may joy spring up in me at every turn today - may I be a blessing in every place I go.

Prov. 3:18 She (Wisdom) is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, And happy are all who retain her.
Father - I yield my mind to Your wisdom today - may wisdom take deep root in me. I want to think Your thoughts and spread the knowledge of Your presence wherever I go.

Prov. 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who wins souls is wise.
Father - I call my body, soul and spirit to uncompromising righteousness.

Is. 55:12 For you shall go out with joy, And be led out with peace; The mountains and the hills Shall break forth into singing before you, And all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.
Father - I offer You these hands today - I bring offerings of clapping and joy.

Is. 61:3 To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees (oaks) of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.
Father - may I walk in Your strength today; may I have the endurance and resilience of the mighty oak.

Jer. 17:8 For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.
Father - I place myself beside You today - I draw from the living water that you provide.

Hab. 3:17 Though the fig tree may not blossom, Nor fruit be on the vines; Though the labor of the olive may fail, And the fields yield no food; Though the flock may be cut off from the fold, And there be no herd in the stalls—Yet will I rejoice in the Lord!
Father - may I be like Habakkuk today - able to rejoice no matter what circumstances I am faced with. May praise and worship be at the center of my life.

Matt. 7:17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
Father - I look for love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness and self-control today.

Luke 13:19 It (the Kingdom of God) is like a mustard seed, which a man took and put in his garden; and it grew and became a large tree, and the birds of the air nested in its branches.
Father - I make my heart a garden for Your kingdom principles to grow in today.

John 12:13 took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out: "Hosanna! 'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!' The King of Israel!"
Father - I make a way in my heart for the King of glory to come. Be enthroned in my praise today, and always.

1 Pet. 2:24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness--by whose stripes you were healed.
Father - This is the greatest tree of them all. I bow my heart before the cross today.

Rev. 2:7 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.
Father - This is the tree that was found in the garden - it has endured through the centuries. Your invitation stands today - You call us to Your tree of life for eternal communion with You.
