Music Out of Garbage

This is one of the most amazing videos I have seen in a long time. It shows children from a landfill (garbage dump) in Paraguay, South America, who have made musical instruments from the garbage and learned to play them. This is such an inspirational story – I hope you take the time to watch the whole thing (11:45 mins long)

The name of the orchestra is Landfill Harmonic (great name!)

It makes me think about all the things we take for granted in our lives. What a privilege it is to play music – we even take the gift God has given us for granted sometimes. These children literally turn garbage into a beautiful offering:

I am challenging all of us as worship musicians and singers to look at this and see if we sing and pay before the Lord with this amount of passion. Do we have hearts that play out of sheer gratitude that the Lord gifts us with music and we have the privilege of serving with our talent?

Psalm 150

1 Praise the Lord! Praise God in His sanctuary;
Praise Him in His mighty firmament!
2 Praise Him for His mighty acts;
Praise Him according to His excellent greatness!
3 Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet;
Praise Him with the lute and harp!
4 Praise Him with the timbrel and dance;
Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes!
5 Praise Him with loud cymbals;
Praise Him with clashing cymbals!
6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord!

Psalm 41:1

Blessed is he who considers the poor;
The Lord will deliver him in time of trouble
