Moses Longed for the Presence of God

Ex. 33:14-15 And He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Then he said to Him, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here.”
Deut. 4:37 “… and He brought you out of Egypt with His Presence, with His mighty power.

Moses refused to go into the Promised Land without the presence of God. God had told him that He would send angels with them (Ex. 33:2), but Moses was not satisfied. Many of us would be thrilled with the presence of angels in our meetings. I am sure that thousands would flock from every corner of the world to see angelic beings in our churches. May God give us the courage of Moses to require God’s presence as we move on to our “promised land.” Take note, however, that many saints waited for long periods of time before the presence of the Lord was made known to them. Moses sought God for six days (Ex. 24:16). On the seventh day, God appeared to him and he stayed in God’s presence for forty days and nights (Ex. 24:18).

In Ex. 33:16 Moses pleaded with God to send His presence with the children of Israel so that all the other nations might know they were separate from all other people in the earth, and that the grace of God was with them. God was really demonstrating His greatness through His people.

“…God had a purpose for Himself in the sight of the nations. They (Israel) had turned salvation inside out: They seriously thought that their rescue was the predominate concern of God. Instead, God was orchestrating a powerful plan to draw the attention of the nations to Himself. God was singling Himself out from all the gods of earth…He wanted the world to watch a mob of slaves marching in procession to worship Him” Steven C. Hawthorne The Story of His Glory, p. 29.

You would think that when God promised to be present with Israel, that would be the end of the conversation between the Lord and Moses…but after God granted His presence…Moses prayed the most dangerous prayer in the Bible: “Please show me Your glory!”

We go from presence to glory! The glory of God is the invasion of the reality of God into humanity!! The greatest of all glory is our transformation from glory to glory into the image of Christ (2 Cor. 3:18)
