Paul's Prayer For Believers

Paul just has a wonderful way with words - look at how he prays for the Colossians - here are 7 layers of blessing over these Believers:

Colossians 1:9-12

that you may be filled with the knowledge of HIs will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding

that you may walk worthy of the Lord - fully pleasing Him

•  that you would be fruitful in every good work

that you would be increasing in the knowledge of God

that you would be strengthened with all might according to His glorious power

that you would have all patience and longsuffering with joy

that you would give thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance

Just imagine the impact on lives if we walked in these 7 things!!

7 GREAT Things About The Church

I have been attending the Pentecost celebrations at Global Spheres Ministries (GOZ) Chuck Pierce's Church in North Dallas area. There has been a lot of talk about the Church in the Book of Acts, and the ministry of the Apostles and other 5-Fold leaders. The emphasis has been on the leaders of the Church equipping the SAINTS (all Believers) to do the work of the ministry (Eph. 4:12). This is modeled so wonderfully in the Book of Acts - I just want to note that when you look at all the miracles in this book that come from the Apostolic leaders...it accounts for 39...

The Believers and other leaders are accredited with 30 miracles! Almost as many!

We tend to think of big name leaders doing all the signs, wonders and miracles, but the greatness of the Church must surely be the power of God flowing in, and through the entire Body of Christ.

So...although this book is called The Acts of the Apostles, it is clear that the ministry of ordinary Believers such as you and I is just as significant as the great champions of the Church. We are called to do great things in the Kingdom of God.

In the Book of Acts, we can see that there are 7 GREAT things about the Church:

• Acts 4:33 They had GREAT power
• Acts 4:33 GREAT grace (charis/favor) was upon them all
• Acts 5:5, 11 A GREAT fear of God gripped their hearts
• Acts 6:8 They ministered with GREAT wonders
• Acts 8:1 They suffered GREAT persecution
• Acts 8:8 Even through days of great persecution, they had GREAT joy (15:3)

• Acts 14:1 ...and as a result, GREAT multitudes believed (17:4)

7 Things

I have been reading Paul's Epistles lately -

Paul wrote to the Thessalonian Church around A.D. 51. The Church in Thessalonica was very young - about 1-3 years old. Paul had to leave early (because his life was threatened) before the Believers were firmly established in the faith but these Christians proved to be strong and faithful. After Timothy reported back to Paul that the Christians were doing well, Paul wrote this book to encourage their faith and help them on a few theological issues. Here is how Paul described these believers:

1Thessalonians 1:3-7
remembering without ceasing your work of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father, knowing, beloved brethren, your election by God.
For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power,
and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance,
as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake.
And you became followers of us and of the Lord,
having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit,
so that you became examples to all in Macedonia and Achaia who believe.

Here is a list of 7 attributes found in the Thessalonian Church:

• They were faithful in their Christian walk

• They worked at being loving towards one another

• They had a patient hope in Christ - especially as they looked for His return

• They imitated and closely followed the example of the Lord and of Paul

• They received the word of God even though they suffered persecution

• They lived with joy in the midst of suffering

• They became examples of faith to Christians throughout Macedonia and Achaia (Greece)

Message Version3as we call to mind your work of faith, your labor of love, and your patience of hope in following our Master, Jesus Christ, before God our Father.4It is clear to us, friends, that God not only loves you very muchbut also has put his hand on you for something special.5When the Message we preached came to you, it wasn't just words.Something happened in you. The Holy Spirit put steel in your convictions.6and determined to live that way yourselves. In imitating us, you imitated the Master.Although great trouble accompanied the Word, you were able to take great joy from the Holy Spirit! -taking the trouble with the joy, The joy with the trouble.7Do you know that all over the provinces of both Macedonia and Achaiabelievers look up to you?

This is a great list to ponder today. As true Believers, we would do well to imitate these very young Christians from Thessalonica. They did not have the benefit of Bibles, books or any other tools to strengthen their faith - even the Internet. They simply had to obey the words of Paul who had briefly visited them a year or two before. It is remarkable that such faith was found in these young Christians!

Book of Acts (Two)

Also, in the Book of Acts, we can see the greatness of the Church. Look at these principles that were great in the lives of early Believers:

The Believers Were Filled With:

4:33 Great power
4:33 Great grace
5:5, Great fear (of God)
6:8 Great wonders
8:1 Great persecution
8:8 Great joy (15:3)
14:1 Great multitudes believed (17:4)

Maybe we will also see great multitudes coming into the Kingdom if we are great in all those other areas as well. (Not that we want great persecution, but it surely made the early Church strong!)
