When I Survey The Wondrous Cross

Please take the time to watch this video today - I don't think there are any more beautiful words than this in all of hymnody:

Words: Isaac Watts - Published in 1707

Charles Wesley reportedly said he would give up all his other hymns - just to have written this one. Here it is - sung by Kathryn Scott:

  1. When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.
  2. Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,
Save in the death of Christ my God!
All the vain things that charm me most,
I sacrifice them to His blood.
  3. See from His head, His hands, His feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down!
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?
  4. Were the whole realm of nature mine,
    That were a present far too small;
    Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all.

Galatians 6:14

But God forbid that I should glory,
save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ,
by whom the world is crucified unto me,
and I unto the world.

Song of the Day

I encourage you to listen to the songs at the side of this blog today. I posted some old Norwegian hymns - the last one is so typical of the hauntingly beautiful melodies found here.

The video is also a song by a young Norwegian girl from Bergen: Radiate (Kisses of tears) - Pinsekirken Ungdom.

For some reason this application makes you put up 4 clips, and they choose the clips for you if there is nothing else that matches - so, I'm sorry about the bottom 2 clips.
