The Lord desires that we would see Him (John 17:24)

These instances of seeing Him through (descriptions of His person in the Word) should not be understood as describing exactly what God looks like, but rather as God revealing Himself to us in a way that we can understand. Exactly what God looks like is beyond our capability of understanding and describing.

How Beautiful!

Olaf The Holy

We were off ministering at a Bible school today - we went to the place where Viking King Olaf the Holy fought a battle to make Norway into a Christian country. Very inspiring.

Update

Sorry to have been so silent these past few days - we have not had good internet connections. Right now we are in Tronheim, which means: home of the strong and fertile ones. This is the oldest major city in Norway and the home of the Nidarosdomen Cathedral - Norway's primary State Church (building started in 1070.) This was the first capital of Norway and is the place where Norway's Kings are crowned.

Right now we are at a leaders conference here in Norway. A Korean leaderPaul Choi) is speaking as I write this. He is translated into English and then another translates him into Norwegian. Quite a trip!! When they get excited they all talk at once! God is doing great things.


Dr Paul Choi has the largest missions organization in the world. He sends his people into every dangerous place in the world. God gives them great favor.

I am so proud if myself - I led this song in Norwegian!!

Book of Acts (Two)

Also, in the Book of Acts, we can see the greatness of the Church. Look at these principles that were great in the lives of early Believers:

The Believers Were Filled With:

4:33 Great power

4:33 Great grace

5:5, Great fear (of God)

6:8 Great wonders

8:1 Great persecution

8:8 Great joy (15:3)

14:1 Great multitudes believed (17:4)

Maybe we will also see great multitudes coming into the Kingdom if we are great in all those other areas as well. (Not that we want great persecution, but it surely made the early Church strong!)

Book of Acts Part 1: HERE

The Book of Acts

Lately I have been reading the Book of Acts. I have been interested to find all the instances of God's manifest presence in the lives of the early Believers. Here is what I have come up with:

In the Book of Acts, there are:

12  Occasions where small and large groups came to Christ

20  Different kinds of supernatural signs, wonders and unusual miracles

9    Healings and deliverances

21  Occasions where the Lord spoke directly to His people through prophetic words, words of knowledge or visions. One of these was through a prophetic act.

2    Instances of God’s audible voice

1    Trance

1   Occasion when Stephen’s face visibly changed (he looked like an angel). He also saw the glory of God

4   Occasions where the Holy Spirit came on people and twice they spoke in tongues

3   Occasions where they were supernaturally released from prison – an angel was involved in 2 of these

7  Occasions where an angel was involved in communicating to, or interacting with the disciples

4   Occasions where the boldness, wisdom and grace of the Believers was noted, and people were amazed

2   Died and were raised to life

3   Were killed by the wrath of God

Book of Acts Part 2: HERE

Stavanger

We have been in the small town of Bryne near Stavanger for 2 weeks. It is hard to describe how beautiful everything is here. Even though it has rained almost every day, everywhere you look it is like a post card with rich farmland, quaint houses, delightful shopping areas and, of course the dramatic fiords:

We are moving on to other parts of Norway on Tuesday morning.

In His Image Worship School

One of the great delights here in Norway has been the opportunity to help launch a new worship school: "in His Image." We have had classes from Friday night to tomorrow's church service with around 30 students. What a joy to worship and study with them over these few days. This evening was a worship service where God's presence just filled us for over 2 and a half hours! It was amazing - prophetic songs, music, dance, paintings, exhortations - just fabulous.

Oh my!! I hope I can handle all this excitement this far away in Norway. I am having trouble finding Norwegians who will get excited about this...I can't blame them, as they don't even play this game!

New Zealand Vikings!

Ok folks...this is a little different from my usual blog, but tonight the RUGBY WORLD CUP begins in New Zealand. This is so exciting - I have been waiting for this event for years.

Anyway, as you can imagine, the whole country is alive with visitors from all over the world (20 countries in the tournament). Today a flash mob formed in the main streets of Auckland and the New Zealand warriors (Maori) delivered this fine war dance to awaken rugby pride in the locals:

Psalm 37:3-8

Sometimes we see evil and injustice flourish around us and are powerless to change anything. Here are eight things that will give you peace in your heart during difficult days:

• V3 Trust in the Lord - no matter what happens, keep your eyes on the Lord

• V3 Do good - don't grow weary of doing good (Gal. 6:9). Don't withdraw from people - keep being kind and helpful to others

• V3 Dwell in the land - this means to stay put and stick to the task the Lord has given you

• V3 Feed on His faithfulness - actively remind yourself of God's ways and His faithfulness - meditate on these things and "chew" on them in your heart

• V4 Delight yourself in the Lord - keep your heart focused on worshiping the Lord. Find out how delightful He really is. The Message Bible says: "Keep company with God"

• V5 Commit your way to the Lord - let God in on all your plans. Turn everything over to Him

• V7 Quietly rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him to bring you through, and for His plans to come to pass

• V8 Cease from anger - do not fret - Don't let anger or worry take a hold of your heart

Swords in Rock

This is where we went today:

Three enormous bronze swords stand monument to the battle of Hafrsfjord in the year 872, when Harald Hårfagre  (Fairheaded Harald) united Norway into one kingdom. The monument was designed by Fritz Røed (1928 - 2002) from Bryne, just south of Stavanger. It was unveiled by Norway's King Olav in 1983.

The swords, which are about 10 meters tall, stand for peace and unification. One sword is larger than the others. This was Fairheaded Harald's sword. The swords are planted in solid rock - representing peace.

When the Nations Worship...

There is a dynamic passage in the book of Revelation, where we catch a glimpse of all the nations, tribes, peoples and tongues worshiping together around the throne:

...I looked, and beheld, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, saying, "Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and unto the Lamb!"  (Rev. 7:9–10)

These worshipers all have the same:

Provision - They are all wearing white robes of righteousness

Praise - They are all singing the same words

Purpose - They are all worshipping the Lamb

Pageantry - They are all waving palm branches

Proclamation - They are all crying with loud voices

Perspective - They are all beholding the Lamb

Place - They are all before the throne

Posture - They are all standing

Just imagine - these are people from all nations, generations and denominations who are worshiping before the throne of God. No one is complaining that they are from a denomination that doesn't worship that way...with that particular song - they are all unified in worshiping the Lamb. In fact, there are eight areas when they find themselves unified in worship in this passage.

When we worship in spirit and truth, then worship is a unifying factor...our eyes are on the Lord and not the things that divide us. 

The House of the Lord

Tomorrow we will be in the house of the Lord. As you prepare your heart to come into the courts of the Lord - pick one of these Scriptures to meditate on from the Book of Psalms - they all teach us about the House of the Lord:

Ps. 5:7 But as for me, I will come into Your house in the multitude of Your mercy; In fear of You I will worship toward Your holy temple.


Ps. 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.


Ps. 26:8 LORD, I have loved the habitation of Your house, And the place where Your glory dwells.


Ps. 27:4 One thing I have desired of the LORD,That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD, And to inquire in His temple.


Ps. 52:8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever.


Ps. 65:4 Blessed is the man You choose,And cause to approach You, That he may dwell in Your courts. We shall be satisfied with the goodness of Your house, Of Your holy temple.

I just had to show you all this little treat - high up above the Lysefjord (I think that is the name) we saw them bringing down the sheep from the high pastures getting ready for the winter - here they are - some of the 5,000 sheep:
