David's Mighty Men

1Chron. 12:1 Now these were the men who came to David at Ziklag while he was still a fugitive from Saul.

These men helped David, and served him with great integrity- even they had been the discontented, disenfranchised, rejects of Israel (1Sam. 22:2).

Here are the main characteristics of David’s fighting men who assembled with him in Ziklag. Think about these attributes and see how you might become a noble warrior for the Kingdom of God like these men. They were:

1. Adaptable Warriors (v2 armed with bows, using both the right hand and the left in hurling stones and shooting arrows with the bow…) They used both right and left hands - whatever was needed,

2. Powerful Warriors (v8 whose faces were like the faces of lions).

3. Swift Warriors (v8 … and were as swift as gazelles on the mountains).

4. Prepared Warriors (v24 …the sons of Judah bearing shield and spear, six thousand eight hundred armed for war) They came armed and prepared.

5. Valiant Warriors (v21-28, 33 mighty men of valor… stouthearted men) These were brave and noble men who didn't fear man but trusted God.

6. Prophetic & Visionary Warriors (v32 …the sons of Issachar who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do…)

7, Unified Warriors (v33, 36, 38) they kept in rank. When you keep in rank, you watch out for one another.

8. Skillful Warriors (v33 & 36 …expert in war with all weapons of warof Asher, those who could go out to war, able to keep battle formation, forty thousand) Expert in all weapons Ps. 137:5 If I forget you, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning.

9. Proven Warriors (v30 …famous men throughout their father’s house) Known and proven within their family. Some people want to serve God in another country before they are proven in their own home. If you cannot be Christ-like to your own family members, don't think you can be great elsewhere.

10. Committed & Loyal Warriors (v18 Then the Spirit came upon Amasai, chief of the captains, and he said: “We are yours, O David; We are on your side, O son of Jesse! Peace, peace to you, And peace to your helpers! For your God helps you.” V38 All these men of war, who could keep ranks, came to Hebron with a loyal heart, to make David king over all Israel; and all the rest of Israel were of one mind to make David king.)
