The Power Of The Tongue 2

I just want to continue a little more on the power of the tongue. May we all ask the Lord to help us to guard our tongues and clothe them with wisdom.

The Lord will help us when others have wicked tongues:

Ps. 31:20 …You shall keep them secretly in a pavilion From the strife of tongues.
Ps. 63:11 …But the mouth of those who speak lies shall be stopped.
Ps. 64:8   …So He will make them stumble over their own tongue
Pr. 10:31 …the perverse tongue will be cut out.

New Testament instructions for the tongue:

Matt. 15:11 “Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.”
Matt. 15:17–18 “Do you not yet understand that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and is eliminated? “But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man.
Eph. 4:29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.
Col. 3:8 But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.
Titus 1:11 whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of dishonest gain.
Jas. 1:26 If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.
Jas. 3:3 Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body.
Jas. 3:5 Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles!
Jas. 3:6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell.
Jas. 3:8 But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
Jas. 3:10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.
1Pet. 3:10 For “He who would love life And see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips from speaking deceit.
Jude 1:16 These are grumblers, complainers, walking according to their own lusts; and they mouth great swelling words, flattering people to gain advantage.

I just want to conclude by repeating what Peter said:

1Pet. 3:10
For “He who would love life And see good days,
Let him refrain his tongue from evil,
And his lips from speaking deceit.
