As worshipers, we are called to be
priests of the presence of God (1 Pet. 2:5, 9). This is an awesome calling for all Christians. The
book of Deuteronomy outlines the three responsibilities of God’s priests:
Deut.
10:8 At that time the LORD separated the
tribe of Levi to bear the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the
LORD to minister to Him and to bless in His name, to this day.
We are to:
1. Bear the ark of the covenant of
the Lord…In other
words, the Lord desires us to live as those who carry the presence of the Lord in our lives. Many folks come to
church and expect the worship team to produce
the presence of God for them! This verse teaches us to live in the presence of
God at all times, and to be the ones who are responsible for God’s presence
when we come to church.
We don't go to church to GET the presence of God - we go to church CARRYING the presence of God. Every worship is responsible for the presence of God.
2. Stand
before the LORD to minister to Him…The Lord has made a place for each of us
to stand in His presence and function as His personal priests and ministers.
You cannot complete this task if you are not living in task #1 – carry the
presence.
3. Bless in
His name…Every one of us must make it a priority to bless others. We have a
greater ability to bless others once we have stood in the presence of the Lord
and blessed Him. I believe the effectiveness of our ministry to others is dependent
upon the effectiveness of our ministry before the Lord.
So it is simple – we have three foundations of worship wrapped up in this one verse: live in the presence of God – minister to God – go out and bless in His name.
WE are all today's priests.
These principles are OUR daily priority.
These principles are OUR daily priority.
