New Zealand Champion Shot putter, Valerie Adams was finally awarded her gold medal from the London Olympic Games:
Just over a month ago, Valerie earned the silver medal in London, but the gold medalist - Nadzeya Ostapuchuk from Belarus - was stripped of her medal for drug use.
Ostapuchuk finally gave up the gold medal last week, and it was given to Valerie in a ceremony last night in Auckland, NZ. Several other medalists from the New Zealand Olympic team were on hand for the ceremony which was attended by a crowd of about 2500.
NZ Lieutenant Governor-General Sir Jerry Mateparae presented Valerie with her Gold medal. This was the first time an Olympic medal was presented on New Zealand soil.
