Discouragement

Discouragement is one of the most debilitating emotions we can ever face

Discouragement is the result of my interpretation of what I see verses what I expected—disconnected from God’s plan and truth.

Feelings of encouragement and discouragement can come over us like waves—even unexpectedly.

The dictionary defines discouragement as the condition of being deprived of confidence, hope or spirit. Even the word begins with the word: “dis” meaning to be without – the opposite of…it can mean we are without the courage to carry on. A discouraged person looses confidence and hope. A discourage person has been dealt a blow to their inner source of courage.

Proverbs 13:12 hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when the desires comes it is a tree of life

Causes of Discouragement

Overwhelmed by goals and tasks that seem too big to reach, or too much to do (Num. 21:4-5; Neh. 4:10-11)
Having a lack of goals – a frustration at having nothing worthwhile to show for your life
—When others speak against us
When we disappoint ourselves and are confronted by our personal failures
When life’s circumstances become overwhelming
The attacks of the enemy (Eph. 6:16; 1 Pet. 5:8; Rev. 12:9-10)
When we get physically tired (I Kgs. 19:2-8; cf. 18:17-40)
When we get afraid of the future and our ability to cope
When we get hindered in reaching our goals and overwhelmed
When we loose faith

How you handle discouragement affects your character – your character determines your ability to rise up and keep on going.

So many instances of discouragement come from words - both words spoken to us and the things we speak to ourselves. So it makes sense to practice being and encourager.

Romans 14:19 So let's agree to use all our energy in getting along with each other. Help others with encouraging words.(The Message)

Many of the great achievements of the world
were accomplished by tired and discouraged people
who kept on working!

  1. What an amazing blessing to have the opportunity to bask in the presence of the Lord as you played for us at Kingdom Life Ministries. The message you spoke to the body stirred my heart. The prayers and words you spoke to us are hidden deep in my heart. Thank you and may God continue to bless your ministry.
