The Anointing 6

The next ingredient found in the holy anointing oil is:

250 shekels of calamus (fragrant or sweet cane)—a tiny plant with a beautiful fragrance – the bigger it grows, the bigger the fragrance.

This is a picture of Believers who have grown in grace and maturity in Christ. True maturity means that we are able to live more and more in Christ, and pour out more and more at every stage of our growth. No matter where we are at, there is something that can come from our lives to touch and bless others. Even when we need s much ourselves, we never stop living in him and blessing others in His strength.

Calamus means:

— Heb: root/cane – derived from a root term meaning to stand upright = Moral uprightness

— This ingredient also speaks of brokenness – when it is crushed more and more fragrance is released

Bruised reed – John 8:11 And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”

— Calamus usually grows in miry soil – we need to grow strong and flourish in the difficulties of life – live uprightly even in times of trouble

— Calamus stands in water - again, this is a picture of an anointing that comes from standing in the Word

A reed; a shaft or branch; water plant; measuring balance; moral uprightness;
Standing upright  through inner (moral) strength

Matt. 12:20; Jn. 8:11

Jesus was morally upright as a man – 1Pet. 2:22
He is “The Branch” Is. 11:1. He is the One who measures all things in His hand Is. 40:12
He measures all things through the branch—the cross
He had anointing and favor throughout His ministry

How do we find Calamus in our lives?
1Jn. 2:27—Abide in Him and allow the anointing to teach and mature you
Eph. 3:13-19—Become strengthened, rooted and grounded in Christ who lives in your heart
Ps. 40:2—Allow the Lord to set your feet on the rock and establish your steps
