...Continuing from yesterday - tips for worship ministers:
• Know your songs.
• Only use songs that are Biblically sound.
• Listen to a great variety of worship music and
styles – never stop learning and growing in your ministry.
• Always make sure your instruments are in tune.
• Prepare well, but always be ready for God to
do what only He can do.
• Be realistic about your musical skills. Know
what you can and can’t do.
• Be yourself.
• Get to know your team – strive for unity in
life and in music.
• Worship with your eyes closed at home, but
when you are in front of people – mostly you should keep your eyes open – there
are so many things you need to be attending to. (There certainly are times when
we can close our eyes, so this is not a hard and fast rule).
• Respect your congregation – they are precious
to God. Every Believer is the Bride of Christ.
• Respect your congregation and understand their
essential role in worship as holy, royal priests.
• Understand the congregation’s role in worship
and how the Lord can use them to be ministers of His voice.
• Understand your congregation – at any time
there are many who are going through various sufferings and trials. God’s
presence is their greatest refuge and comfort.
• Always choose songs that connect your
congregation with God. Don’t just go for the latest new songs unless your
congregation enjoys that song and style. Keep all the generations in mind as
you choose songs.
• The best songs are the ones that stay in the
heart throughout the week and continue to teach us and lead us to the Father.
• There are a lot of poorly written songs out
there. Watch your congregation – they are the best gauge of a well-written
song. If the people can’t or don’t sing…just maybe the fault is with the song.
• Learn how to wait in the presence of God.
Sometimes silence is needed.
• Walk closely with your
pastor/minister/priest/leaders. Know what is on their hearts and the direction
they believe the church needs to go in.
• Study the theology of Worship.
• Respect the distinctive worship journey your
congregation is on.
• Be open to input from others on your team and
congregation. In fact, you should seek out feedback.
• Learn how to handle both compliments and criticism.
• When it comes to attendance at church, being
on time, dress, etc. be a professional.
• Keep you eyes on the generations that are coming behind you. Champion their success and make way for their ministry.
• Honor your elders.
• Make way for all those whom God calls to join
the team.
• Be on good terms with your sound and media
teams. Make them a part of your worship team – because they are.
• Don’t ever loose your passion.
• Don’t allow disappointments and struggles to rob
your ministry. Learn how to feed your soul, repent quickly from wrongdoing and
run with endurance.
• Emulate David – the man who understood the
secrets of brokenness and how this affects worship. Study the lives of
excellent worship ministers today
• In the end, it is really the Holy Spirit who
is the worship leader!
I am dedicating this list to two precious girls in Colombia who want a worship anointing!
